Vistaara Yoga

Established in 2010, Vistaara yoga is the brainchild of Jackie Schoenberger, an avid yoga practitioner for over 10 years. Her journey began while pregnant with her son and she experienced first-hand the healing benefits of this ancient healing art. She received her 200 hour Yoga Alliance certification in 2009 and loves to inspire others to embrace a yogic, more natural lifestyle. Having lived in St. Albert for over 36 years, she brings her knowledge and vast network of local contacts in holistic health to Vistaara.

Her teaching approach focuses on creating body awareness and connection to self – two things that are missing in many lives today. Creative class plans, easy to understand instruction and constant feedback ensure your yoga practice is safe and motivating whether you are a “scared stiff” beginner or an advanced yogi or yogini. She creates a full-sensory environment for her students, giving them the sacred space to explore movement and the opportunity to still the mind for greater clarity and peace.

Her yoga specialties include:

Hatha
Hatha is the best-known yoga style in the west. It focuses on strength-building physical postures that increase flexibility and balance. The regular practice of Hatha will create muscle flexibility and bone strength, as well as sharpen mental focus, concentration and will power. Hatha yoga also involves pranayama or breath control exercises. Ancient yogis believed practicing breath control was the secret to harnessing the power of the mind. It relaxes the body, strengthens the lungs and provides the perfect tool to focus the mind.

Vinyasa Flow
The vinyasa style links various Hatha poses together using the breath. It is a flowing practice that strengthens the heart and lungs. Be prepared to sweat!

Prenatal and Postnatal
Pregnancy is a wonderful time to start yoga. It prepares the body for the rigors of birth and provides opportunity to practice breathing and relaxation techniques to ease pain and fear. Yoga practice allows the mother-to-be to connect with her unborn child on a spiritual level. After childbirth, yoga can tone and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and aid in overall physical recovery.

Yoga for Stuttering
Jackie has created a special multi-faceted program to help people with fluency and speech difficulties. Physical postures and breathing exercises are taught to strengthen the speech control system. Students are led through meditation and visualization to address emotional issues surrounding their speech. The human energy system (the chakras) is also taught and discussed. Jackie is working with the Edmonton-based Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research to offer this unique adjunct to speech therapy.

“I named my company Vistaara because it is the ancient Sanskrit word meaning expansion through nature. What better way to grow and get back to your true nature than through the practice of yoga. Expand your life. Do yoga!”

Namaste,

Jackie
